The Telnyashka was introduced in 1874 in the Imperial Russian Navy and was later taken over by the Navy of the Soviet Union. Until today it is a part of the uniform of Russian sailors, paratroopers and Marines.
In addition to the blue and white striped version, there are also others such as black and white for submarine and tank crews, light blue and white for Paratroopers (VDV), dark blue and white for sailors and Marines, green and white for Border troops and red-white for OMON and MVD Spetsnaz units.
