The 20x139 mm cartridge was developed by Rheinmetall from 1961 and from 1970 introduced to the German Bundeswehr. It was use with the MK 20-1
anti-aircraft gun and the cannon of the HS 30 and 11-2 infantry fighting vehicle.
Today the 20x139 ammunition is still in use and is fired with the Rh 202 cannon of the SPz Marder, as well as the weapon
carrier Weasel of the heavy hunters companies. The armored personnel carrier Marder will be replaced in the future by the
SPz Puma. The use of 20 mm ammunition will therefore continue to decline in the future.
